Most skincare routines fail for the same reason: too many active ingredients, applied in the wrong order, too quickly. The four steps below are the backbone of every Boteyy ritual, and the order is not arbitrary — each step changes what the next one can do.
I. Cleanse
Cleansing is preparation, not treatment. A gentle, pH-balanced cleanser clears sweat, sunscreen and the day's pollution so that whatever follows can actually reach the skin. Pat dry rather than rubbing; the goal is skin that feels comfortable, never squeaky.
If your skin feels tight thirty seconds after cleansing, the cleanser is too strong. That tightness is stripped barrier lipids, and it is the first domino in a week of irritation.
II. Treat
This is where the active ingredient sits, and where most mistakes happen. One targeted treatment at a time. Vitamin C and niacinamide belong to the morning; retinal and acids belong to the night. Layering a strong antioxidant over a retinoid does not double the result — it doubles the irritation and halves the number of nights you will keep going.
Apply to skin that is still slightly damp. Absorption improves, and so does tolerance.
III. Protect
A moisturiser is not the optional step at the end. It seals the treatment underneath and gives the barrier the lipids it needs to repair overnight. Oily skin needs this as much as dry skin does — skipping moisturiser to control shine reliably produces more oil, not less. The texture changes with skin type; the step does not.
IV. Shield
Broad-spectrum SPF every morning, without exception, indoors included if you sit near a window. This is the one step with no substitute. Every pigmentation and firmness result you are working towards depends on it, and unprotected sun exposure will undo a month of treatment in a single afternoon.
How long before anything changes
Four to eight weeks, minimum, and it varies from person to person. Barrier comfort improves first, usually in the first fortnight. Texture and congestion follow at three to four weeks. Pigment and fine lines are the slowest — six to twelve weeks of consistent use before the difference is visible in a photograph rather than a feeling.
The routine that works is the one you can repeat on a bad day. Four steps you actually do beat ten you abandon by the second week.
